On June 4, ahead of the 31st National Sight Day, the launch ceremony of the "China National Action Plan for Prevention and Science Popularization of Ocular Trauma" was held at Tianjin Medical University General Hospital. The initiative was jointly established by the China Blindness Prevention and Epidemiology Society, China Ocular Trauma Society, and Tianjin Medical University General Hospital.
Eye health is vital to the well-being of the population across their entire life cycle, and the prevention and treatment of ocular trauma is a national strategy. Consequently, the National Eye Health Plan has explicitly listed ocular trauma as one of the key eye diseases for prioritized prevention and treatment. Addressing ocular trauma requires not only high-level clinical care but also a proactive shift toward early intervention and prevention — and effective prevention must begin with public education.
The "China National Action Plan for Prevention and Science Popularization of Ocular Trauma" was initiated and led by Professor Hua Yan, vice-president of the Asia-Pacific Ophthalmic Trauma Society, president-elect of the Chinese Ophthalmological Society, and vice-president of the Chinese Medical Doctor Association Ophthalmologists Branch. Under the theme of "Popularizing Ocular Trauma Prevention Knowledge, Building a Strong Shield for National Eye Health", the action plan will deliver sustained and systematic public science education and awareness services nationwide.

At the ceremony, Professor Hua Yan, representing the founding organizations, outlined the current status, challenges, and future development plans for ocular trauma prevention and treatment in China. He also elaborated on the profound significance and implementation strategy of formulating this action plan.
The launch of this action plan marks a significant step forward in making China's ocular trauma prevention and education efforts more systematic, standardized, and socially integrated. By uniting ophthalmic professionals, public health forces, and resources from all sectors of society, the action plan aims to guide the public in raising protective awareness and mastering correct emergency response methods. Ultimately, it strives to reduce the occurrence and impact of ocular trauma and contribute vital professional expertise to advance the Healthy China 2030 initiative.
