Representatives from leading foreign business chambers in China and multinational firms visited Tianjin's Nankai district on April 29 to explore local culture while offering insights into improving the business environment and advancing the city's goal of becoming an international consumption hub.
Seventeen delegates from organizations including the chambers from the United States, the European Union, South Korea, Germany, and Australia began their tour at Tianjin Ancient Cultural Street. Walking through the historic area, they experienced the heritage and commercial life of Tianjin's old city.
The group later gathered at Guangdong Guild Hall, a well-preserved Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) complex, for in-depth discussions with local officials. Nankai authorities introduced the district's investment landscape and invited foreign participation, with chamber representatives sharing suggestions on industrial upgrading, consumption growth, and business environment optimization.
Jiang Nan, an advisor from the German Chamber of Commerce in China, highlighted Nankai's innovation strengths, including those of Tianjin University and Nankai University, and pledged to connect German enterprises with local opportunities.
Participants emphasized using Tianjin's historic architecture and cultural assets to attract younger, high-end consumers through creative industries and intangible heritage projects.
The visit also featured traditional Chinese medicine experiences, showcasing Tianjin's growing role in integrating healthcare services with trade and consumption — another step toward building a more open and dynamic urban economy.
