When the rich cultural heritage of Tianjin meets the creativity and craftsmanship of young students, a dialogue between tradition and innovation unfolds. This festive cultural and visual feast, infused with the spirit of the Lunar New Year of the Horse, is set to open in Tianjin.
From Feb 10 to March 20, the 3rd Tianjin Student New Year Painting Exhibition will be on display. The traditional New Year pictures exhibition brings together student artworks from across the city, vividly showcasing how today’s youth preserve and inherit traditional Chinese culture in the new era.
Since the successful launch of its inaugural edition in 2024, the exhibition has grown into an important platform for Tianjin students to showcase artistic talent and engage in dialogue with traditional culture, with its influence expanding annually.
This year’s exhibition reaches a new scale: primary and secondary schools as well as universities across Tianjin responded enthusiastically, submitting a total of 10,860 student-created New Year picture works.
Both in content and form, the selected works highlight remarkable creativity and ingenuity. Alongside creations of the classic themes of Yangliuqing New Year pictures, students also explored bold innovations—incorporating the delicacy of cloisonné, the solidity of bronze carving, and experimenting with mixed media such as handmade collage and three-dimensional cutout techniques.
Viewed through youthful perspectives, traditional New Year pictures are infused with renewed vitality, with many works’ originality and craftsmanship earning high praise from the viewers.
