Located in northeastern Tianjin, Ninghe district sits at the geometric center of the Beijing–Tianjin–Tangshan urban cluster and serves as Tianjin’s eastern gateway. Known as the “green lung of Beijing and Tianjin” and a “land of fish and rice,” Ninghe is also recognized as a National Demonstration Zone for Ecological Civilization.

Leveraging its distinctive location and rich ecological and cultural endowments, Ninghe has pursued integrated development centered on the convergence of agriculture, culture, sports, education, tourism, and commerce.

The Qilihai Wetland is now home to 308 bird species and 183 wild plant species, with the milu deer population exceeding 100.

Ninghe has rolled out immersive study programs such as wetland ecological observation and bird conservation education, while leveraging sports events to build signature IPs, including the Qilihai Half Marathon and international roller-skating competitions. In 2025, the district welcomed over 4.6 million visitors.

Rich in cultural heritage, Ninghe features historic sites such as the former residence of Yu Fangzhou, with courtyards dating back to 1943, characterized by gray-brick houses, moon gates, and garden corridors.

With a history spanning 460 years, the Lutai Grand Market has become a key venue where folk culture and commercial consumption converge.
Through its unique role in connecting time, space, and industry, the market brings Ninghe’s vibrant, everyday atmosphere to life—emerging as a major draw for visitors seeking authentic local experiences.  

Local cuisine reflects the wetland water-town bounty: specialties like Qilihai river crabs and Ma’er Roast Chicken are widely celebrated. Branded products—including Qilihai river crabs and Hongyao sweet potatoes—have entered Southeast Asian markets, with annual sales exceeding 500 million yuan($72 million).
