SCO member states encouraged to collaborate in bridging digital divide

The 2025 China-Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Forum was convened in Tianjin on May 29, underscoring China's dedication to fostering open-source collaboration in artificial intelligence and supporting SCO member states in narrowing the digital divide.

At the forum, officials highlighted the importance of promoting international cooperation to guide AI development in a beneficial, safe, and equitable manner. China has actively built collaborative platforms to advance AI applications, focusing on open-source solutions and deepening cooperation with other SCO member countries.

Azat Ibraimov, director of the Situation Center for Management and Monitoring of the Implementation of Decisions of the President and the Cabinet of Ministers of the Presidential Administration of Kyrgyzstan, noted that Kyrgyz private enterprises has been already utilizing open-source solutions from Chinese AI companies to develop their own large language models. This is enabling them to significantly reduce the digital gap with developed countries, as he stated.

Azizjon Azimi, chairman of AI Council of Tajikistan under the Ministry of Industry and New Technologies, said that Tajikistan is a major producer of green hydropower, which can provide training resources for China's cutting-edge large models, facilitating the emergence of new initiatives like DeepSeek and unlocking broader growth opportunities.

Oleg Kopylov, deputy secretary general of the SCO, expressed his hope for comprehensive AI cooperation among SCO member states. According to him, it's looking forward to deeper collaboration in various fields, including logistics, education, and healthcare, to expand the application and ensure the safe use of AI technologies.
