Tianjin makes great strides in economic and social development

Statistics show that Tianjin has made solid progress in its economic development and improving the livelihoods of its people over the past 10 years.

Over last decade, by upholding the principal of pursuing progress while ensuring stability, Tianjin has resolutely implemented the country's new development philosophy and firmly improved its development quality.

The city's GDP came in at 1.57 trillion yuan (about $228.2 billion) in 2021, with its average annual growth over the past decade sitting at 6.1 percent.

In the same period, the per capita disposable incomes of urban and rural residents in Tianjin grew at average annual rates of 7.9 percent and 8.9 percent, respectively.

Tax revenue accounts for 75.8 percent of the general public's budget revenue.

The city has significantly optimized its growth and industrial structure, and has set its development focus on the manufacturing industry, led by the smart technology sector, Zhang said.

In 2021, industrial strategic emerging industries and high-tech manufacturing industries respectively contributed 25.3 percent and 15.5 percent of the city's value-added industrial output.

Tianjin has pushed forward the coordinated development strategy of the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region, attracting over 6,700 investment projects from enterprises in Beijing, with a combined investment of over 1.14 trillion yuan. The number of enterprises in the Binhai Zhongguancun Science Park has grown to 3,200.

The R&D investment across of the whole society reached 3.44 percent.

The core competitiveness of the national advanced manufacturing R&D base continues to rise.

The strategy of designating the manufacturing industry as the main driver of economic development has seen its full implementation.

Tianjin has accelerated a modern industrial system led by intelligent technology, with a focus on biomedicine, new energy and new materials, and supported by equipment manufacturing, automobiles, petrochemicals, and aerospace.

Breakthroughs have been achieved in setting upmajor innovation platforms, such as a new generation of supercomputers and the National Synthetic Biotechnology Innovation Center.

The first group of 5 Haihe Laboratories has been put into operation.

The number of national high-tech enterprises and national technology-based small and medium-sized enterprises have both exceeded 9,000.

The Haihe Talent Plan has introduced a total of 420,000 talents.

Tianjin has introduced a total of 175.8 billion yuan in foreign capital over the past decade.

Some 38 reform measures from the Tianjin Free Trade Zone have been applied nationwide.

Tianjin launches the world's first smart and zero carbon terminal.

It has established 20 Luban Workshops in 19 countries.
