​10th China University Student Medical Technology and Skills Competition concludes in Tianjin

On May 16, 10th China University Student Medical Technology and Skills Competition concluded at Tianjin Medical University in Tianjin.

The closing ceremony was attended by governmental and medical representatives including Zhong Denghua, deputy head of the Ministry of Education, Jin Xiangjun, member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Tianjin Municipal Committee, Lin Huiqing, former vice minister of the Ministry of Education and Zhang Boli, recipient of the national honorary title, "the People's Hero". Academicians of the Chinese Academy of Engineering including Wang Chen, Shen Hongbing, and Qiao Jie were also present at the event.

Twenty-one gold awards, 41 silver awards, and 80 bronze awards were presented, 10 medical education experts were awarded outstanding contribution awards, and 169 excellent players, 171 excellent mentors, and 54 excellent colleges were selected.

Focused on clinical thinking, technical skills, professional quality, and teamwork, ten sessions of the competition have been held since 2010.

This year's championship competition, which simulated the scenario where thousands of medical staff helped to fight the COVID-19 outbreak in Wuhan, will guide the transition from traditional teaching models to a medical simulation education model.

Wang Zengguang, mentor of the competition and director of general practice of Tianjin Medical University General Hospital said that he had served as mentor of the competition for eight years, and the students were performing better and better.

Dalian Medical University was the champion for five-year clinical medicine, Peking Union Medical College (School of Medicine Tsinghua University) won the championship for eight-year clinical medicine, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was the winner for traditional Chinese medicine, Harbin Medical University was the champion for preventive medicine, and Nanjing University of Chinese Medicine won the championship for nursing.

Wang Weimin, chief referee of the competition and associate director of the Peking University Health Science Center, said that both candidates and mentors benefited from the competition.
