Tianjin's centurial theater has been restored and will welcome Deyunshe, the popular cross talk group, in the upcoming May Day holiday.
Crosstalk shows were first performed in the theater in the 1960s. For locals, both the old theater and cross talk represent a valuable return to their long-established deep connection with the city's history and their own emotions.
Tianjin boasts a long history and rich resources in traditional opera. And locals are characterized by their sense of humor which can be experienced in Tianjin cross talk, which features intense enthusiasm and blended emotions.

The two-story brick-and-wood theatre, built a century ago in what is today central Hebei district, has borne witness to artistic evolvement over time and a plethora of artists.
Back then, it was the biggest venue and could accommodate 1,000 people. It saw famous artists such as Peking Opera master Mei Lanfang. One of his new works, inventively performed and depicting the irony of feudal social systems, debuted at the theatre and created a sensation in Tianjin.
It is fair to say the theater charts the fascinating history of opera development in Tianjin.
Last year, it was listed as a Tianjin municipal cultural unit and its architecture was said to be of historical and cultural value in representing the city's modern history.

The theater will become another must-see spot in the district, joining the Italian Style Area, during the upcoming May Day holiday. Light shows, interactive entertainment facilities and more updates have been prepared to surprise visitors to both attractions.
