Tianjin’s Jizhou district has received letters of thanks from Gulang county and Tianzhu county in Gansu province for its help in lifting them out of poverty.

The two counties’ production and living conditions, as well as their infrastructure in areas such as healthcare, education and roads, have all seen substantial improvements following a total of 312 million yuan($47.75 million) of financial assistance funds allocated by Jizhou district.

160,900 impoverished people - 26 percent of the total population of the two counties - have benefited from 141 anti-poverty projects and 67 workshops set up in their areas by the district.

Jizhou’s government officials have been working shoulder-to-shoulder with their local counterparts, sharing management experiences and social development skills.

207 outstanding doctors, teachers, and professional and technical personnel have carried out medical, educational, and technical support work in the targeted counties.

Jizhou has facilitated 19 enterprises to develop industries such as honey, mushrooms and strawberries to raise 10,900 people out of poverty.

In addition, the district has promoted poverty alleviation via the sale of agricultural products. Since 2017, a total sales volume of 106 million yuan has been achieved for the aided counties.

To create more job opportunities, Jizhou assisted the two counties to hold 18 job fairs, providing more than 5,000 jobs of various types, and carrying out skills training for 2,908 poor people.
