The opening ceremony of the International School of Engineering at Tianjin Chengjian University (TCU) was held at the university on Sept 27.

The school, jointly established by TCU with two Polish institutions - Bialystok University of Technology and Cracow University of Technology - is the first Chinese-Foreign educational institution in China to be run in cooperation with Poland.

The first 240 undergraduates are enrolled in four programs, namely; civil engineering, environmental engineering, architecture and landscape architecture.

In order to better greet the new TCUers, the university adopted face-recognition and ID card scanning technologies for the first time to ensure the accuracy of the new arrivals' information.

Special activities were conducted, which not only acted as a surprise “greeting gift” for students and their parents, but also demonstrated the characteristics of each school.

The School of Architecture guided newcomers and their parents to appreciate the charms of architecture and led them to experience the revolutionary spirit with an activity called “Architecture at first sight”.

The School of Control and Mechanical Engineering put on a display featuring the innovative scientific and technological work of current students.

The School of Geology and Geomatics crafted four-season post cards for the freshmen to combine nostalgia for their hometowns with anticipation for life at TCU.
