Cainiao Yizhan -- China's third-party terminal logistics services platform, operated by Alibaba's logistics arm Cainiao Network -- has rolled out high-tech parcel pick-up devices and green recycling service stations at university campuses, according to campus officials.

They said the biggest of them yet has been installed at Tianjin Normal University, or TJNU.

With the help of a high-speed photographic apparatus – coupled with face scanning technology -- misplaced boxes and long lines of annoyed customers waiting to fetch their parcels is now in the past, officials said.

"Students receive a notice that their goods have arrived at the campus station and can find their parcels on the storage racks, according to the prompts," said Zhang Jinheng, city manager of Cainiao's campus station in Tianjin.

According to Zhang, less than a minute is needed to complete the pick-up process after the recipient scans the parcel and a receives a password code on their mobile phone using the high-speed photographic app.

Face-scanning lockers have also been installed on the first floor of dormitory buildings at the university, providing a 24 hours service and freeing couriers from setting up stands with packages spread out on the ground.

Currently, officials said, the new system is handling the  11th Singles Day shopping rush.

Other universities in the country also took measures to provide students with more convenient services for the Single's Day sales holiday and to meet the delivery surge.

With tens of thousands of service stations in communities and campuses nationwide, Cainiao Yizhan has also made a separate space to recycle packing boxes and filling materials.

The total amount of parcels delivered to TJNU is expected to exceed 20,000 during this year's Single's Day rush. At present, Cainiao recycles about 5,000 packing boxes every day, with more than being put back into use, according to Wang Yao, who is in charge of Cainiao Yizhan's north China regional business.
