Situated in the middle and downstream reaches of the Haihe River, Tianjin's Jinnan district is a golden corridor connecting the city's downtown and Binhai New Area, and thus enjoys promising prospects for development.

It is the home to world-famous Xiaozhandao rice and also the birthplace of China's modern army.

Today, it is also the site of worship of the Chinese sea goddess Mazu; rites with a good reputation around the world. The district is furthermore the hometown of Zhou Ruchang, the first scholar to study Dream of the Red Chamber, one of the four great classical novels of Chinese literature.

Building eco-friendly environment

Tianjin's ecological area consists of 330 km² of Jinnan, which is 45% of the city's planning area and 85 percent of the district's area.

Last year, Jinnan began to develop as "an ecological shelter zone, an oasis of Tianjin."

The government promotes ecological construction with high standards. Up to this year, afforestation had been completed over 26,400 mu (1,760m²) in the district.

Officials also cooperate with the Tianjin Academy of Agricultural Sciences to improve varieties of Xiaozhandao Rice.

Developing high-tech and sustainable industry

Jinnan is also building an ecological shelter zone and becoming a "Tianjin Intelligence Valley", intending to emerge as an international exhibition center. A high-end service industry and a green and high-quality development approach are also developing.

Based on talent resources and areas of research, the core 12.2km² area of the Valley will be reserved for a number of high-tech enterprises.

Jointly built by Aliyun (Relational Database Service) and a regional economic service platform, an Aliyun Innovation Center (Tianjin-Jinnan) has opened. And a series of enterprise incubators have also been formed.

In 2018, R&D intensity was 2.83 percent, the second highest of Tianjin.

The third national exhibition center, to have a built-up area of about 1 million square meters, is under construction.

At the end of June this year the 2019 China-Tianjin Defense Vehicle & Equipment Exhibition was successfully held.

Jinnan district was evaluated as Tianjin's best place for doing business in 2018.

Sharing achievements with the public

The government also allocated a social relief fund of ten million yuan. Twelve thousand senior citizens can get an allowance of 310 yuan ($43.48) every month. Today, the district has 46 newly-built schools and kindergartens.
