Although historically significant as one of the homes of the Grand Canal, Tianjin Jinghai district now has a new importance -- connecting to Xiongan New Area and the new Beijing Daxing International Airport.

It is also actively preparing to take on Beijing's non-capital functions and strengthen cooperation with Hebei province.

Grasping the opportunity, Jinghai's modern industrial system is forming a development philosophy of circular economy, health industry, logistics, advanced manufacturing, urban agriculture and tourism.

In 2018, the district's regional GDP reached 68.2 billion yuan ($9.55 billion). Per capita disposable income of its residents was 28,261 yuan.

For the past five years, it has reduced corporate taxes by 5.3 billion yuan besides taking other measures for creating a first-class business environment such as introducing favorable policies for private business, setting up industrial development funds for emerging sectors and other measures.

In 2018, the private economy in the region accounted for 85.8 percent of total added value and 80 percent of local jobs.

Its encouragement of scientific and technological innovation has also shown results.

International exchanges are advancing smoothly in more and more areas such as health and automobiles, according to the local government.

Jinghai has experienced economic and trade exchanges with 176 countries. In the first seven months of this year, its total volume of foreign trade imports and exports reached 10.86 billion yuan, ranking third in the city.

The district has established cooperation with Japan's Kitakyushu city in recycling and low carbon economy. More agreements will be reached with Japan in the health industry, including physical examinations, pensions, nursing training and other projects.

On the basis of cooperation in bicycles with European countries, logistics has become another focus.

Daqiuzhuang, one of China's largest steel production centers in the southwestern suburbs of Tianjin, is identified as a demonstrative Sino-German ecological town.

Now Daqiuzhuang will also serve as a Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei constructive industry base integrating functions of R&D, manufacturing, display and logistics. At present, nearly 200 well-known domestic enterprises have joined the project.

The district features beautiful natural scenery featuring 100 square kilometers of forests to the west and Tuanbo Lake, half that size, to the east. The lake is not only the star of a famous poem, Autumn in Tuanbo Lake, but also serves as a protective habitat of migratory birds.
