Tianjin Dolphin Hearing Disabled Children's Choir — the world's first choir formed by children with hearing disabilities — will perform at the opening ceremony of the 10th National Games of Disabled Persons and the 7th Special Olympics on Aug 25 in Tianjin.

The choir was founded in 2014, and the children are supported with cochlear implants while singing.

Members of the choir are all from Tianjin, aged from 5 to 15.

Xiao Ling, founder of the choir and a staff member of the Tianjin Disabled Person's Federation, told China Daily the purpose of the choir is to encourage children to regain confidence in life and present their skills to gain more recognition from society.

"The children can sing a narrow range of tunes, but they are trying their best to present to the world with their best ability," she said.

On Aug 25, 28 members of the choir will sing two songs, Big Sky and You Can, I Can, which were composed with their condition in mind.

A total of 35 delegate groups will take part in the upcoming 10th National Games of Disabled Persons and the seventh Special Olympics, including up to 22,800 participants — a historical high. Among them, 6,000 athletes will come to Tianjin.
