Art works related to the mythology of "Jing Wei determines to fill up the Sea" have been created in Tianjin to encourage local people.

When you go into Tianjin Railway Station and glance up, you will see the splendid painting of "Jing Wei determines to fill up the Sea" which was completed by artists in 1988.

Also, the wonderful ballet Jing Wei produced by Tianjin Song and Dance Company and the vivid sculpture in China-Singapore Tianjin Eco-city present the legend.

Tianjin is believed to be closely related to the story.

Jingwei is a bird that was transformed from Yandi's daughter. After she drowned while playing in the Eastern Sea, she turned into a bird called Jingwei and she was determined to fill up the sea, so she continuously carries a pebble or twig in her mouth and drops it into the Eastern Sea.

Bohai Sea was part of Eastern Sea during the ancient times. The city used to be the old road of the Yellow River and as the coastline gradually recedes, sediments accumulate, creating the land where Tianjin was based, Luo Shuwei, an expert at the Tianjin Cultural and Historical Research Institute pointed out.

Archaeological findings show that during Warring States period (475-221 B.C.), the ancestors of Tianjin had lived and reproduced in the land.

The spirit of "sincerity, perseverance, self-improvement, and hope for a peaceful life" embodied in the math reflects that of ancestors and continue to encourage people today, said Luo.
