On July 17, Tianjin Binhai cultural center staged a modern drama Red Sorghum as the opening performance of the 12th Binhai Art Festival.

"Red Sorghum" belongs to Pingju Opera, a popular type of Chinese opera in Northeast China performed by the Tianjin Pingju Opera Theater.

The festival set to last until November will celebrate the New China's 70th birthday with six main events: Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei cluster arts exhibition, calligraphy and painting exhibition, Binhai children's Pingju Opera festival, young singers' competition, square dance competition, and singing contest.
