Chinese cheongsam, or qipao, culture flourishes in San Francisco in April.
Liu Bing, a cheongsam enthusiast and local TV host from Tianjin who initiated the project of "Guohua-Global Chinese Cheongsam Image Giant Scroll" which collectively photographe Chinese women all over the world in cheongsam to make the record-long roll of images, and his team concluded their third trip to the San Francisco Cheongsam Culture Month.
This was the year's first overseas stop for the Long Scroll team jointly planned by the Tianjin Returned Overseas Chinese Federation and the Global Cheongsam Culture Alliance.
According to Liu, Cheongsam, the body-hugging one-piece dress often considered as the quintessential national dress, has a "soft unique Asian side" which matches the unique inner beauty of Asian ladies.

Therefore, he thought about photographing Chinese women around the world wearing the traditional qipao dress and presenting the collected pictures on a giant scroll like the Chinese painting Qingming Shanghe Tu (The Scene at the Upper River during Qingming Festival).
San Francisco has a special relationship with the team. It was the first overseas city that saw over-thousand participants in the Long Scroll collective shooting. The San Francisco volume part has also become the most eye-catching chapter in this grand global picture.
By the time the project gets completed, more than 40,000 women will be photographed. The pictures will be displayed on the continuous scroll, spanning more than 10,000 meters, which will make it the longest scroll in the world.
Liu and his team were invited by Su Zi, the founder of the American Qipao culture hall which organized the "San Francisco Cheongsam Culture Month" activities for cultural exchanges and creations.
