The revenue from Tianjin’s software and information technology service industry will see an average annual growth rate of more than 15 percent and reach 200 billion yuan ($29 billion) by 2020.

According to a three-year action plan recently released by the government, Tianjin will focus on eight major sectors like big data, industrial software, the Internet and cloud computing, support a group of leading industrial players and foster small and medium-sized businesses.

The plan estimates that the enterprises above the designated size in the industry will exceed 1,500 by 2020. It also anticipates a growing role for professionals.

Efforts will be made to further develop existing industrial clusters, such as the National Animation and Industry Comprehensive Demonstration Park, Wuqing E-commerce Park, and Zhongbei High-tech Industry Park, while attracting other similar facilities to settle in the city.

Revenue generated by Tianjin’s software and IT service industry reached 135.2 billion yuan in 2017, up 14.1 percent year-on-year.

Emerging sectors like cloud computing, big data and the Internet saw rapid growth and IT services accounted for more than 70 percent of the total revenue. Big data and its related industries realized revenue of 35 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 100 percent.

The city has sharpened its competitive edge in super-computing, high-performance servers, CPU and operation systems and databases and formed a full-chain industrial ecosystem consisting of a number of enterprises like Tianhe, Phytium and Qihoo 360.

Qihoo360 has set up its headquarters and is building an industrial park in Tianjin. More than 30 firms in its business ecosphere have relocated to the city.

ShentongData, Sugon, Kylin Information Technology Co and other enterprises have received special funds from the State.

There are about 100,000 employees in over 700 companies in the software and IT service industry in Tianjin. Some 180 of them have obtained the system integration certificate.

The number of enterprises with business income exceeding 1 billion yuan and 100 million yuan is 22 and 108 respectively; their income accounted for 90 percent of that of the city’s software and IT companies.
