The China and Russia magazine is currently the only international publication that covers Sino-Russian relations in both Chinese and Russian.

In speaking of the reason for running the magazine, its editor-in-chief Berezhnykh mentioned in a recent interview that in earlier days he was deeply impressed by a China-made tower with long-lasting quality. That experience led him to feel that as the two countries enter the 21st century a broadening bilateral relationship calls for better mutual understanding and started the magazine.

Russia has responded positively to the Belt and Road Initiative and deepening cooperation between these two countries in various fields is evident. The magazine closely follows the ties and has covered many Sino-Russian projects such as wide-body aircraft development, Berezhnykh said.

He said that although stories about the China-Russia relationship are increasing with the deepening cooperation between these two countries, the magazine faces uncertainty due to lack of financial support. He and his son have struggled through hard times by doing part-time jobs to keep the publication going. It is against this background that 24 issues of China and Russia were published in ten years.

For his long-term focus on the China-Russia relationship, Berezhnykh interviewed delegates at both the 18th and 19th National Congress of the CPC. He and his son also attended the SCO Qingdao Summit.

Berezhnykh said Tianjin is very pretty and he was especially impressed by the Italian Street. He thinks that the former Russian consulate in Tianjin in 1902 can be converted into a Sino-Russian relations museum to record the friendship between the two countries.

He expressed his willingness to publicize the development of Tianjin in China and Russia and hoped to have the opportunity to come to Tianjin again.
