With lilac, crabapple, peach, magnolia, and cherry all in full bloom and not so many visitors, TEDA Botanical Garden has become a niche springtime "get-away" place for many admirers.

Located in the TEDA section of Binhai New Area, the garden was built by Tianjin TEDA Greening Group in 2010 to collect and exhibit plants and support scientific research and education.

One of its main functions is to screen out plants that are suitable for the saline soil of the coastal district so that they can be extensively planted locally as part of the district's saline soil reclamation efforts.

In the past ten years, over 6,000 plant species have been introduced and now nearly 2,000 of them are in observation. They have been categorized in 11 sections for visiting.

Over the past three decades since the new area was established in 1984 the district has desalinated the soil and improved its fertility by a combination of scientific methods including introducing better oil, washing away saline substances and cultivating original plants.

Thanks to the fruitful efforts, by the end of 2019, nearly 40 percent of its area was covered in trees, bushes and grass.
