Tianjin is to form two urban centers by developing its coastal Binhai New Area, according to the municipal proposals for the implementation of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021-25) and the Long-Range Objectives Through the Year 2035.
Tianjin's present central area will emphasize its role as an international commerce center and a regional business center, with a focus on improving its modern service sectors.
Meanwhile, Binhai will be shaped into a smart and green living area with improved infrastructure and public services, as well as a focus on building a world-class intelligent and environmentally-friendly port. This represents a major step by the municipality towards building a modern city guided by the new development philosophy in the new age.
The two centers will be separated by a ecological barrier that covers 736 square kilometers, complete with rice fields, lakes, grassland and forests.
The land mapping also caters for the city’s plan to undertake Beijing’s non-capital functions and to enhance its manufacturing, international shipping and financial industries in the coming years.
