As the first modern university in China, Tianjin University, founded in 1895, will celebrate its 125th anniversary on October, 2, 2020.

In the Notice of Tianjin University’s 125th Anniversary Celebration released on Thursday, May 21, the university announces the theme for this year’s celebration, that is, “TJUers all over the world, forge ahead to a moderately prosperous society!”

According to the notice, the university will organize a series of online and offline celebration activities.

An exhibit showing Tianjin University’s development and its contribution to the country’s higher education is to be held, and science and technology promotion activities like seminars, lectures and competitions are to be expected.

As a special tribute to China’s poverty eradication efforts, the university also includes in the notice a plan to help improve the primary education in some of the country’s poverty-striken areas by organizing voluntary teaching teams and improving infrastructures, building 100 classrooms, for instance.

The university will adopt a cloud platform to celebrate its anniversary so that all its teachers, students and alumni, wherever they are, will be able to attend and appreciate the celebration. Technologies like 3D and VR (Virtual Reality) will be employed to display a panoramic view of the university online and a virtual museum named Museum of Good Old Days will be available to bring back TJUers’ memory back at school through online visits to the dormitories, cafeterias, and teaching buildings.
