The Tianjin Health QR Code has helped prevent and control the spread of the epidemic - and facilitated the city in resuming production - by managing citizens’ movements since its launch on February 29.

As of March 19, 20 days after its launch, 4.4138 million applicants had used the Tianjin Health QR Code, 96 percent of whom are granted the “green code” - a sign for normal health condition and free travel.

It sees an average daily usage of 1,083,900, with a peak of 2,656,700 on March 18.

The above data indicate that the extensive uptake of the QR Code by residents and enterprises means it acts as an effective digital pass to help with epidemic control and work resumption.

The Tianjin Health QR Code serves to cement online and offline data sharing and the efficient management of people with different health statuses. Throughout the outbreak, the Code has been realizing the real-time sharing of health information data with the national integrated government service platform.

In addition to residential community and inner city management, the Code is used at the city’s transportation hubs including the three railway stations and Tianjin Binhai International Airport. This aids accurate epidemic prevention and control of the city’s entrances and exits.

For instance, at Tianjin Binhai International Airport, following a Tianjin Health QR Code check, “orange code” holders were dissuaded from entering the terminal building.

The Tianjin Health QR Code has facilitated work resumption of enterprises. Over 4,500 personnel on the subway project, which is under construction by the Tianjin Subway Group, were allowed to go to work directly after they got the “green code”.

Commercial buildings in the central urban area allow visitors with a “green code” to enter, reducing waiting times. Couriers with the “green code” are allowed to enter communities, which not only brings convenience to the residents’ lives but also promotes the recovery of the courier industry.

Next, the Tianjin Health QR Code will grow in convenience by connecting to other public resources. For example, using QR plus medical health, users will be able to make online medical health service inquiries in areas such as appointments, treatments, examinations and reports.
