On Sept 5, Tianjin University, Tianjin Branch of China Mobile Communications Corporation and DTmobile signed a cooperation agreement and established the Joint Innovation Centre for 5G Intelligent Network at Tianjin University.

The center will help the three sides to cooperate in network research, technology application, academic communication, etc. Together, the three sides are supposed to build an experimental platform for autonomous driving vehicles, deploy 5G network, devise a network framework, and shed light on the cooperative technology that involves autonomous driving vehicles, roads, network and the Cloud system. The center will release its scientific achievements in May every year.

Xie Hui, Director of Tianjin University Autonomous Driving Vehicle Research center introduced that the Joint Innovation Centre had already built a testing ground for 5G vehicular networking on the new campus of Tianjin University and carried out Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) research and Vehicle to Everything (V2X) research. "We are investigating about building an open test area for autonomous vehicle driving and smart connected cars within Tiianjin Haihe Education Park. Hopefully, the park will provide China's largest open testing ground for smart connected buses and become the pilot area for future urban traffic that applies the intelligent unmanned technology." Xie observed.
