Tianjin has promoted the pilot of garbage sorting in some communities, according to the Gardening Committee. The latest smart trash bins, which not only are beautiful to look at and easy to operate but are also well-sealed and leakproof, were installed to assist garbage classification. 　

The smart bins are fully automated for weighing and recording statistics for every user. As soon as they were introduced, the staff handled registration of community members, and taught them how to use them.

The equipment divides garbage into nine categories, including paper, plastic, metal, glass, expired drugs, recyclables and kitchen waste. After weighing and choosing a category, a particular door automatically opens.  

Users get credits every time they use these smart devices, which can be cashed-in for prizes with daily staff. The data collected is transmitted to an environmental supervision institution so as to provide timely service.

What’s the response of residents toward these classification bins? "The new type of smart bins is clearly classified, and simple to use. The elderly such as me can use them as well. Different garbage goes into different boxes, and there are even prizes. Everyone is willing to participate and make the community a better place,” said Ms Zhao, a community member.
