The city of Tianjin will set up a group of industrial innovation and engineering research centers to promote high-tech industries.

The city’s economic planners recently released detailed guidelines to support the plan.

The municipal-level industrial innovation centers will receive an annual subsidy of up to 5 million yuan ($726,248) and municipal-level engineering research centers that are upgraded to State-level will be funded with 1 million yuan.

Industrial innovation center projects that apply for intelligent manufacturing funding will receive assistance ranging from up to 30 percent of their total investment to 5 million yuan for three consecutive years after reviews.

Those projects that have been identified as State-level industrial innovation centers will get funds equal to the national subsidies from the local government after State approval.

The city’s development and reform commission will provide instructions as to the construction of municipal-level engineering research centers and support their application to be designated as State-level.

As an important part of Tianjin’s innovation system, the centers will facilitate coordinated exchange between upstream and downstream platforms and promote transformation of technological achievements and industrial R&D.
